Detroit’s 3 game slide (0-2-1) was snapped on Larkin’s 700th game. Beyond belief is that the game winner was a short handed 0 on 1 tally by Copp. The play started with a block by Edvinsson on the PK and led to the 3rd Wings tally. So, one on the power play, one short handed, and two even strength (though Debrincat’s was just seconds after the power play expired).
Raymond’s play continues to draw much deserved praise. Association he gains confidence, he just seems to weave in and out of the opposition and force double coverage. Very impressive young man that, by all accounts I’ve heard, was pushed hard by Draper to be the #4 pick. As much as many don’t care for the scouting staff, that pick has turned into something special.
Montreal is a very different looking team. First, Laine got his groove back. I don’t know if they’ll make a movie, but he seems to have found a maturity that has reignited his highly touted scoring in his draft year. Whatever he’s been through, the sniper seems to be in a very good place right now.
Full admission, the goal challenge made me nervous simply because of the score. It seemed like Rasmussen was pushed and we’ve seen that go either way. Montreal is the “come from behind” team and that looked like it teed up a beautiful chance for the Habs. The Wings held on.
As far as shots go, Detroit was slinging the biscuit all night. 43 was the final count at last glance. Edvinsson made some nice plays defensively and Soderblom seems like he’s inches away from notching a tally. He’s playing hard and looks ready to take a bottom 6 spot (opinion).
Let me know your thoughts on how it looked to you. Detroit played the game and there was a lot to like. Let’s hope another mini streak is in the making but Tampa Bay can always bring a hurricane with them.
