Update - while the league won’t issue any punishment to Kucherov, it looks like Lilleberg will have a talk about his hit on J.T. Compher.

In today’s pregame there was some hope that this would be a “chippy” game. It surpassed that hope and Detroit came out strong. Yes, Talbot came up with some big saves, but the Red Wings had some good posession time and the tip in game winning goal by Kasper was a beauty. It certainly feels like Kasper is here to stay.

Rasmussen’s empty net goal saw a nasty trip by Kucherov that the league should take a look at. It was unnecessary and resulted in the big man being walked back to the room. Cam Talbot and disruption to the play of the Lightning saw tempers flare. Detroit was the recipient of a post stopped back hand earlier in the game but made the best of it.

The power play went 0 for 3, but on the PK the bottom defender seemed to be able to stay behind the offense. A big upgrade. Johansson made several good plays and seems to be growing into the defensive aspect of the NHL game. I think it’s pretty well assumed that ASP, when he makes it over, is going to be more of an “offense first” player so the more young players that can get ahold of the defensive play the better.

Not a lot to say. Good back and forth, good game to watch. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. It had to feel good to grab this win after the last trip to Tampa.
