The San Jose Sharks have placed forward Danil Yurtaykin on unconditional waivers in order for his contract to be terminated, according to CapFriendly.com.

Yurtaykin is 23 years old and spent last season with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda, where he scored two goals and 17 points in 37 games. He was also called up to join the Sharks for four games, where he went pointless. Yurtaykin had one year remaining on his entry-level contract.

It’s likely that this move was made to give Yurtaykin the opportunity to return overseas. From the player’s perspective, it’s a better move for him to return to the KHL, rather than holding out for playing time with the Sharks, which he wasn’t likely to get.

It may be a minor hit to San Jose’s prospect pool but overall, Yurtaykin’s departure shouldn’t affect the Sharks all that much.
