The Columbus Blue Jackets new management staff made brash and bold moves to shake up the organizational depth of their new 2024-2025 roster.
From buyout, defenseman Adam Boqvist has been placed on unconditional waivers. This season there will be a cap credit, where next season will be a cap penalty. Sadly, the top draft pick has not panned out due to the number of injuries sustained. While being under the age of 25, his buyout is 33% his original number spread out double the length. As he had one year left, he will be paid the next two by the club to not play here.
From the restricted market, skaters Tyler Angle, Alexander Nylander, Marcus Bjork, and Jake Bean were not qualified making them unrestricted free agents for the frenzy.
No new updates on other pending free agents including Brendan Gaunce, Malcom Subban, Jakub Zboril, Billy Sweezey, Josh Dunne.
Nick Blankenburg and Carson Meyer are confirmed free agents.
Trade Rumors
Per Michael Russo of the Athletic, the Minnesota Wild are interested in Patrik Laine. They join Seattle, Utah, Pittsburgh, and Montreal.
Ivan Provorov is on the block, but not for cheap. Big price tag.

Lot of boards have connected Chandler Stephenson to the Blue Jackets. Don’t see this. Not a number one center.
Have seen the Sean Monahan suggestion for chemistry with Gaudreau. Don’t hate it, but also, isn’t a guy like Martin Necas.
Have also seen Colin Miller, Matt Dumba, Matt Roy, Matt Grezelyck.
The depth of defense is questionable as there’s so much of it internally. They need muscle. A Zadarov should be the Avenue.
