CBJ PG42 v Seattle Kraken — Werenski Home Point Streak Extends Win Streak |
|
|
|
The Columbus Blue Jackets score four unanswered second period goals to extend their winning streak to four games in a four goal victory over the Seattle Kraken. The final score was 6-2 to split season series at 1-1.
This game featured plenty of home scoring; a regular season debut for Luca Del Bel Belluz; and the NHL debut of Owen Sillinger, the older brother of Cole Sillinger, who missed the game with illness. Owen Sillinger became the third Sillinger of the family to wear the Columbus sweater, as Mike Sillinger also played for Columbus in his playing days. This tilt also saw the return of Damon Severson to the lineup as Jack Johnson was out sick for the club.
Here is the full recap leading to Zach Werenski’s 16th consecutive game with a point at Nationwide Arena.
Period I
Shy of the the 12 minute mark in the game, the redirected shot of Ivan Provorov was tipped in by center Sean Kuraly for the alternate captain’s fourth goal of the season. Mathieu Olivier had the secondary assist.
Just after the 12 minute mark, exactly 10 seconds later, Eeli Tolvanen slapped the puck in behind the Columbus goalkeeper to tie the game at one a piece for his ninth of the year. Rookie Shane Wright had the primary assist; Jared McCann had the secondary.
Period II
Luca Del Bel Belluz regained the Columbus lead on a backhander for his first career National Hockey League goal. James van Riemsdyk and Damon Severson had the assists on the LDBB goal.
The Blue Jackets turned the offense after the midway mark of the second period with three goals in 4:52 of time on ice.
Zach Werenski extended his home point scoring streak at 16 with a snapper for his 13th goal of the season from Adam Fantilli and Dmitry Voronkov.
Denton Mateychuk recorded his first career National Hockey League goal as his parents were in the stands to witness. JvR and LDBB had the helpers; LDBB had his first career assist and multi-point game.
Kent Johnson wristed in the fourth straight Columbus goal to launch the cannon for the fifth time of the night before 40. KJ’s 11th of his shortened season was supported by Werenski and Dante Fabbro.
Period III
Tolvanen ended the scoring streak with his second of the game and 10th of the season as offseason acquisitions Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour earned the apples.
Kirill Marchenko lit the lamp for the final goal of the evening for his 18th of the year on an empty net from Mateychuk earning his first career multi-point performance.
