Ooohh, Thatcher Demko is coming back! Oh Vezina caliber this, Vezina caliber that. Lankinen told the Canucks media and faithful to hold his beer last night as he carried the Canucks on his back to a 2-0 win over the Bruins. It was a middling road game for the team, but if you wanna see the Boston shooting highlights and a couple Canucks goals, they are here:
Lankinen made 33 saves in the shutout. DeBrusk scored against his old team. Former Canucks did not score against their old team. The Canucks beat the Bruins in their barn. Overall, a pretty good Tuesday night.
The team is happy with the two points, but they know they have to be better. Missing JTM still stings up front, and even though they got Boeser back from his concussion, the team was missing a spark.
“It was a super weird game to be honest,” said DeBrusk. “It was just one of those things where there were a lot of emotions. You see too many people you know and I was happy to get that one (goal) and I didn’t know if it was going to get called back.
“But they were all over us. They were throwing pucks from everywhere and there were rebounds and he (Lankinen) is the biggest reason we won. We have to do a better job in front of him.”
The most consequential (to date) signing in the offseason keeps getting better. Lankinen was a wall. It will be nice to get Demko back, but having these two as a tandem is even better.
“I felt pretty good,” said Lankinen said of his win. “Confident and felt like I was seeing the puck and tracking well and figuring the play in front of me. It was a good night. We battled hard and the defence did a good job blocking shots (17) and clearing rebounds. A great team effort.”
There were some hectic times around the crease, but Lankinen said he relishes those moments.
“I think that's the part of goaltending that I always love — just scrambling and kind of throwing the technique and the structure out of the window and just trying to get something (in front of the puck). Like I said before, I got some help from my D-core and the guys in front of me.”
Even Tocc was glazing the guy after the shutout:
“He was first, second and third star,” said the Canucks head coach. “They made plays where they didn’t shoot and went cross ice and he just read it. He was really on tonight. We had some moments we’d like to have back, but Lanks was awesome.
“In 82 games, you’re not going to have pretty ones, but we’ll get out of here and take it.”
It definitely wasn’t the prettiest game. The shot attempts 72-31 for Boston, with the Canucks blocking 28 of them. But the Canucks can pocket the two points and move onto the next game, which is…. tonight. They take on the Penguins tonight.
