The state of Florida was not kind to the Winnipeg Jets as they finished their 3 game road trip by getting drubbed 5-0 at the hands of the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers.
First Period:
Much like their game against the Lightning, the Jets spent the majority of the 1st period on their heels and hemmed in their own zone. The only goal scored was by Mackie Samoskevich. The Panthers finished the period up 1-0.
Second Period:
The wheels really came off for the Jets in the middle frame. Former Jet, Nate Schmidt scored on a big rebound given out by Connor Hellebuyck. Evan Rodrigues outmuscled Mark Scheifele from in close and scored to put the Panthers up 3-0. Before the period was over, Josh Morrissey lost position on Sasha Barkov on a short handed rush as he banged in a rebound to put the Panthers up 4-0 to close out the 2nd period.
Third Period:
The only goal in the last period came off the stick of another former Jet Dmitri Kulikov, who scored to make the score 5-0 for the Panthers. The game got chippy at the end. Scheifele dropped the gloves with Aaron Ekblad. Vlad Namestnikov, Colin Miller and Neal Pionk all got misconduct penalties at the end of the game.
Some takeaways from the game:
After a 15-1 start to the season, the Jets have now dropped 2 in a row. Not only have they lost 2 games in a row but they also got beat quite decisively in both games being outscored 9-1 in both contests combined.
The Jets lethal PP has also been held off the scoresheet these last 2 games, going 0-7 in both games combined.
The Jets are off until Tuesday night now when they return home for a rematch with the Florida Panthers. Let's see how they respond.
