Jets Coming Back Down to Earth |

The Winnipeg Jets were defeated 4-3 by the Vegas Golden Knights in Sin City last night. After a torrid and record breaking start to the season, the Jets have now lost 3 of their last 4 games. Eric Comrie took the loss in net for the Jets.
After a very lifeless game against the Los Angeles Kings where the Jets clearly looked fatigued and banged up, they played a much better game against the Golden Knights.
First Period:
The Jets opened the scoring at the 7 minute mark of the period when Cole Perfetti tipped in a Josh Morrissey shot to give the Jets a 1-0 lead. The Golden Knights responded with under 2 minutes left in the period. First, Brett Howden got a partial breakaway and tucked the puck past Comrie to tie the game. Then, with under 20 seconds left in the period, Ivan Barbashev was left uncovered in front and banged in a rebound past Comrie to give Vegas a 2-1 heading into the 1st intermission.
Second Period:
Cole Perfetti scored the lone goal of the 2nd period to tie the game for the Jets when he scored off a big rebound given out by Knights goaltender Adin Hill. It was Perfetti's 2nd goal of the night. The period would end with the score tied at 2.
Third Period:
Barbashev scored his 2nd goal of the game just under the 5 minute mark of the final period to give the Knights a 3-2 lead. Neal Pionk tied the game 4 minutes later when his point shot beat Hill cleanly. Just when it looked like the game was headed to OT, Howden scored his 2nd goal of the game for the Knights when he was left uncovered on a back door play to give the Knights the 4-3 lead. Despite late pressure and a PP for the Jets, they could not get the equalizer.
Some takeaways from the game:
Perhaps to get some fresh legs, Colin Miller and Ville Heinola both came out of the line up for this game and were replaced by Logan Stanley and Dylan Coghlan. Coghlan was making his Jets debut. Neither player really stood out in either a positive or negative way.
Although the Jets lost this game, a bigger loss may have come in the form of a potential serious injury to Nikolaj Ehlers, who played only 6 minutes in this game. Ehlers seemed to have bent his left leg awkwardly when colliding with a Vegas player. After the game, Scott Arniel did say that Ehlers would be day to day. Fingers crossed it's not a long term injury. If Ehlers is set to miss some time, we could see one of either Brad Lambert or Nikita Chibrikov called up.
This game was much more competitive than the one on Wednesday night in Los Angeles for the Jets. The Jets are now 2-3 on this season long road trip which wraps up tomorrow afternoon in Dallas.
