Sens Throw Away Another Point |

It seems the Ottawa Senators don't mind giving up points heading into the playoffs. So many games have gone down as a loss or over time loss and its getting old, especially at home. The Toronto Maple Leafs, and Montreal Canadiens are among teams that embarrassingly had their way with then Sens over the easter weeked. Granted, these games aren't necessarily the 'make it or break it' kind, but why not get the practice in while they can?
After beating Buffalo on Tuesday night I thought they would have used the momentum in order to take advantage of a beat down squad who are desperately trying to get into the playoffs. While the Sens are still trying to clinch a playoff spot, they seemed way too tired and casual out there tonight.
Brian Lee made his second NHL start with veteran Chris Phillips as his partner on the blue line. Together they were a solid pairing as they kept their game simple and neutralized the Sabres forwards. I like to see a young passionate player like Lee on defense while Wade Redden gets healthy.
Dany Heatley was a bit on the quiet side tonight as his partner Jason Spezza scored a sweet goal in the first period. Mike Fisher got his long awaited 22nd and 23rd goals of the season, after such a long drought, I'm sure the team was relieved to have one of their hardest working players get rewarded.
Martin Gerber was solid in net as he stopped 37 of 40 shots to keep his team in the game despite the fact that they didn't register a single shot during overtime. Nonetheless, several players on this squad have stepped up while Ottawa is plagued with injuries. Guys like Antoine Vermette, Dean McAmmond and Sean Donovan have been battling along the boards and creating some quality chances for their team.
Looking ahead to this weekend the Sens will meet the Boston Bruins on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins are desperate to bank points while the Washington Capitals are slowly creeping up on them in the standings. After a 15-2 start and now with 4 games to go, this team better pick up their socks if they plan on beating their division rivals this week.
