Thursday, we got a look at what we all hope is the future for the Rangers in Gabe Perreault, as he notched a pair of goals with an assist in Team USA's 10-4 first game win over Germany. Today, the NHL opens their post-holiday break with the Rangers skating tomorrow in Tampa. As you will below, what's old is new and new is old based on the line combinations.
Perreault has quick hands, quick reactions, sublime vision and the fast release of a goal scorer. His line with Ryan Leonard and James Hagens dominated action yesterday notching four goals and five assists with Hagens and Perreault each having two markers. The earliest we might see Perreault is after BC completes their season. Hagens will be the first overall pick, and the Rangers slide continues, I am all in for the Junking for James. My concern watching the US is that the defense is not great. Drew Fortescue didn't much to stand out and I do think they may miss EJ Emery's focus on defense on the blue line. Rico Gredig did little while centering the second line for Switzerland yesterday and is being scratched for a 15-year-old today.
If at first you don't succeed, repeat the same action and hope for a different result. The top two offensive lines are back to where they used to be as Chris Kreider returns to action after being a healthy scratch. On D, Ryan Lindgren and Adam Fox are reunited while K'Andre Miller is in the top-four in his return from injury. Can we restart the #freezacjones hashtag?
