Start here today...
The Mitch Marner Spin Machine has begun...
The latest talking point is that Marner's camp isn't using comparables to other wingers...which isn't surprising but also... isn't really news.
Marner and the Leafs consider this kid to be a superstar...and they have been open about it. There is little question Marner is well on his way to becoming a superstar, but the minute the team says they will match ANY offer thrown at Marner they are immediately cornering themselves needlessly.
Marner is not yet in the "generational category" but the Leafs have put him there. So is it any surprise that his agent would NOT be looking to other wingers as a benchmark? The Leafs are a few days away from the Draft and they have a ton of work to do...They obviously don't want another holdout situation and the Leafs are already trying to frame this...by saying he is being unreasonable by not accepting winger money...
Now the good news...no spin
I have actually heard there is a deal to be made, and it is actually moving along, but both sides still have a few minor concerns...and the price will be high, so the Leafs are managing expectations a bit...but blaming the player is a weird way to go.
The question I have is simple....
Is Marner already a 90 million dollar guy?
I don't think there is nearly enough of a sample group and that kind of pressure is just too much to put on a kid this age...especially in that microscope of a market.
The Canes willing to let both of their goalies walk.
There are three ways to look at this one:
*The Canes are just playing hardball, but they will fold on at least one of these guys.
*The Canes don't want to spend money since they have the best goalie in the AHL, 23-year-old, Alex Nedeljkovic.
*The Canes are looking at signing one of the big goalies on the UFA market...
Also...The Ducks are buying out Corey Perry...
