The second annual Hockey Buzz Mock Draft continues. Jack Hughes went first to New Jersey, Kappo Kakko was selected by the Rangers and Bowen Byram landed with Chicago. Following a trade with Colorado, Buffalo selected Alex Turcotte while Los Angeles tabbed Cole Caufield and Detroit’s went with Vasili Podkolzin. Colorado traded the 7th pick to New York, who picked Trevor Zegras while Edmonton's selected Dylan Cozens. Anaheim traded their pick to Florida, who took Kirby Dach, and Vancouver dealt their pick top Colorado with the Avalanche taking Matthew Boldy. Philly selected Philip Broberg, Minnesota grabbed Philip Tomasino and Anaheim tabbed Peyton Krebs. Arizona’s took Victor Soderstrom, Montreal selected Cam York, Vancouver’s went with Moritz Seider and Vegas grabbed Alex Newhook. Dallas selected Arthur Kaliyev while Ottawa’s picked Bobby Brink. Winnipeg's went with Ryan Suzuki while Pittsburgh traded their pick to Ottawa, who selected Thomas Harley. LA dealt their pick to Carolina, who selected Raphael Lavoie and the Islanders took Nils Hoglander. Nashville went with Ville Heinola and Washington grabbed Spencer Knight. Calgary's and Tampa's picks are below.

The hope is that picks 28, LA, which I have in hand, and 29, Buffalo, for which I am waiting on, will be posted in a blog first thing in the AM. Boston's pick, #30, and Buffalo's pick, #31, wrapping up the draft, should be posted around lunchtime. Thanks to all who have participated and commented during the draft.

Overall Rules and Process:

After the pick or trade is made, a poll will be posted to rate the selection or deal. If the majority of people like the pick or trade, that selection stands and it moves on to the next team’s picks. If not, the majority rules and that’s what happens with that team and pick. I have the last right of refusal to keep everything on the up and up and avoid ballot box stuffing. My request to you is that you take this serious and not make a mockery of the mock draft, because that would be an insult to the others who are participating and makes the whole process a sham. But by playing this out, we get to have healthy debate and conversation to remain engaged up and possibly beyond the draft. If teams make deals and they occur before a team’s selection is due, that deal will play a part as to when each person’s selection occurs.

Here how this is working: each evening (for now, one pick per day, but we will go to two when we get to second half of the mock draft and possibly even before that, so that we complete on time) the team’s selector emails me their pick and rationale for that selection to [email protected]. If making a trade, the same applies, and all the selectors have been listed below along with their screen name if from this site or their twitter handle if external to help facilitate making trades. I am posting that pick and rationale on the site and create a voting poll. For now, we are using just a yes or no vote for the poll, but if people want me to list other options for the selection at that pick number in cases of a no vote, I am happy to do so, to help make it more robust.

With the 26th pick the Flames, represented by bean_dip, Andrew Horenbein, select Albin Grewe, RW, Sweden

Rationale for the selection:
When you get this far in the draft, there’s no wrong pick. They’re all shots in the dark. The Flames only missing link is in net, and with Knight off the board, I wanted to take a player that is a difference maker. I know, this might be a stretch for Grewe. But have you seen this guy play? He brings the noise. He plays RW, which is another area the Flames could use some help. Adding Grewe also aids in protecting Johnny Hockey and takes some of the edge off of Tkachuk. Grewe brings an element to the Flames that will be appreciated by fans.

The other RW option was Leason, but as a 20 year old in the draft, I felt the risk was too high. Afanasyev was the other consideration as a dynamic RW, but to me, he’s more of the same that the Flames have.

With the 27th pick the Lightning, represented kreiderbomb, Vin Canfora, select Brett Leason, RW, Canada

Rationale for the selection:
Consolation prize for a disappointing end to the 18-19 season was holding onto their 1st round selection as part to conditions in the Ryan Mcdonagh-JT Miller trade. Tampa has used some of their organizational depth to try and reach the promise land with no success, they turn to an overage forward to possible make an immediate contribution. This marks the 10th straight year in which Tampa has reached to the CHL for it's first selection in the draft.

As per Sammi Silber:

"One of the older players available in the draft, Leason is lethal on offense and is constantly generating scoring chances. He gets to the right areas and has great hands, as well as vision and a good shot. Leason is also an aggressive player who will throw his weight around and engage in battles for the puck.

He's been passed over twice now at the NHL draft, but has established himself as a first-round pick this time around. And all things considered, he's the kind of player that Tampa is looking for."

Rangers qualifying offers:

Good to see that Gorton has spoken to Trouba's and Kreider's agents. He gave qualifying offers to Pavel Buchnevich, Brendan Lemieux and Tony DeAngelo. Halverson not getting qualified is evidence of how deep the Rangers system is in goalie. I disagree with not giving Claesson a QO. He played well last season and at times was one of the team's better d-men. Claesson wouldn't be expensive to qualify, and even though lots of d-men in the system, there is no guarantee that the kids, including Libor Hajek, Ryan Lindgren and Adam Fox, will be ready and you could plug-and-play Claesson as not be. In addition, the $ savings, cognizant that each penny matters, wouldn't be huge.
