TRADES AND UPDATES GOING HERE

- Per Dustin Nielson, Edmonton pick is in play to trade down as low as 14th.

- It looks like Toronto is about to make an announcement about a Kapanen extension. Good for the Leafs, bad for everyone else.

- All still quiet on the Western Front. Getting the sense it is going to be a quiet day for Edmonton. Tomorrow could be very different.

- More rumblings that the Oilers will select Broberg if he falls to them at 8. My sources are telling me that is not the case and Edmonton will be going after one of three forwards.

- It looks like the Oilers will not be giving qualifying offers to Ty Rattie or Tobias Rieder... that should not surprise anyone.

- Sam Cosentino of Sportsnet seems pretty confident that the Blackhawks will be selecting centre Kirby Dach at #3. Does Colorado pass on Turcotte if he falls to them?

ORIGINAL POST

The table has been set for what should be a fun day. Edmonton currently holds the #8 spot in the NHL draft and unless something big changes, we should see them make that pick. The first two picks are consensus, with Hughes and Kakko going 1 and 2 respectively but after that things could go bananas.

Chicago may select consensus third overall defenseman Bowen Byram but it seems likely they could go with Alex Turcotte. If they pass on Turcotte, will Chicago take him? Will another team try and trade up to acquire him?

Right now I still have big winger Matthew Boldy going to Edmonton but it could also be small speedy winger Cole Caufield or strong two way centre Dylan Cozens. It is unlikely but the offensive and dynamic Kirby Dach could even end up in Edmonton's lap.

Will Jesse Puljujarvi be moved this weekend? Ken Holland certainly seems fine to play chicken with the disgruntled winger. With this information in hand, Holland may try to add to his forward ranks this weekend too. Kapanen is the big fish the Oilers should pursue closely followed by Nikolaj Ehlers.

It should make for a fun day and stick around here for all the updates!
