It's Draft Day in Vancouver and there are a number of rumors swirling about potential trades involving the Toronto Maple Leafs, but we will have to wait a few hours whether any will come to fruition on the draft floor at Rogers Arena.

In non-draft related news, the Leafs will open the season at Scotiabank Arena against the Ottawa Senators and former Toronto assistant coach DJ Smith on Wednesday, October 2nd. Their first road game will be against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday, October 4th. The club's full regular season schedule will be released on Tuesday.

The club will also hold their annual development camp starting next Monday at the MasterCard Center in Etobicoke, ON. After medicals and on-ice testing, the Leafs will hold on-ice workouts for four days and the Blue vs. White scrimmage on Saturday morning.

There has been little speculation about Toronto having interest in Carolina defenseman Justin Faulk since last summer, but talks about a contract extension have broken down between the fiscally restrained Hurricanes and the veteran blueliner. With the Leafs extremely shorthanded on the blueline, you would have to wonder whether GM Kyle Dubas will make inquiries on Faulk to Carolina GM Don Waddell, who reportedly turned down an offer of Kasperi Kapanen and Connor Brown for Brett Pesce.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports that sources are indicating that the Leafs have at least investigated the possibility of trade involving Nashville defenseman PK Subban. Subban has three years at $9 Million per season and the Preds may be looking to shed his salary to extend blueliner Roman Josi, who is an unrestricted free agent next summer. Friedman also reports that this pursuit would be contingent on Mitch Marner's contract impasse being resolved.

Dubas has been busy on the draft floor chatting with other managers. He had a discussion with Nashville GM David Poile, a shorter one with former boss Lou Lamoriello and a lengthy one with Senators GM Pierre Dorion.

Chatting with Poile gives some weight to the recent rumors involving the Leafs interest in PK Subban, while Dorion could be a buyout landing spot for Patrick Marleau.

Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports that Toronto is closing in on an extension for Kasperi Kapanen, which could be a precursor of a trade of a winger like Connor Brown or William Nylander.

stay tuned.
