Slow Days: Leipsic, Camp, No Moves

Ssslloowww days in the NHL right now...I guess I thought there might be some more trades in the lead up to July 1st.

Leipsic Not Qualified

As you know, Blake and co. won't be tendering a qualifying offer to Brendan Leipsic, making him a UFA in a few days. I thought with his energy and age (25), he might fit in with the younger roster the Kings are going to roll with, but they'll be cutting ties. I'm wondering if it was a mutual thing.
The Kings want to play the kids and don't quite have a clear picture of where their future is headed and Leipsic's age and playing style could realistically get him on another team with a bit more of an identity/direction - and one where he can be part of the game plan.

Development Camp

Eager for some news out of camp, I dropped by 'The Mayor' John Hoven's site this afternoon and read an article with some snippets of interviews he had with Turcotte, Bjornfot, Kaliyev, Fagemo, Lee, Kupari and Sodegram from the past couple days of the development camp.

It's a cool read and helps give you a little glimpse into these kids mindsets, personalities and experiences. In a way, we're kind of living through them, because it would be awesome to be in the spot their in right now.

I really liked Bjornfot's comment:

โ€œThis is a world class organization and Iโ€™m glad to be here. It was fun to be out on the ice today, especially after not being on the ice very much so far this summer. Iโ€™m looking forward to the big scrimmage on Thursday night. The White Team wants to win the game!โ€

He likes the organization. He's pumped to be back on the ice. He wants to win the big scrimmage tonight.

Strainght to the point.

Jon Rosen over at the LA Kings Insider site also has a nice piece that details the development camp thus far - complete with a few photos from the past couple days.

Obviously a lot of these guys still have a long road ahead of them, but it'll be fun to keep our eyes on them as they progress on their journeys.

Hopefully we'll start seeing some videos come out. Feel like there's always a tight lid on the camps, but good thing we got a guy on the inside secretly recording the drills and scrimmages...

No Click Bait Season for Kings

This time of year is usually ripe with rumors. Some are legit. Most are bogus. But all are designed to get you to click on them and discuss.

With the Kings decision to go with the youth movement, there's virtually nothing out there related to them. I know Blake said they'll be making no moves and their main focus is getting their current roster prepared, however, I wanted to ask you guys a question:

Would you like to see them bring someone in for depth on defense?

Nothing major, but maybe a guy with experience that you can get for cheap on a one-year deal or something (if such a guy exists)? I know doing that is counterintuitive to letting young guys get experience, but there's always injuries, poor play, chances of some of these guys needing to rotate to/from the A, etc., etc...I've always felt it's a bit more difficult to inject young defensemen into the lineup, than it is to slot forwards in.

Hoping for some excitement in the next few days...
