After hosting their own rookie tournament for the last decade, the Toronto Maple Leafs have joined the eight-team NHL Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, MI this September.

The Leafs previously have hosted a four-team tournament in London, ON, in Oshawa, ON and at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto two years ago, before going to Laval, Quebec last season to play rookies from the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators.

The Traverse City tournament is in it’s 21st season and is hosted by the Atlantic Division rival Detroit Red Wings and will run from Friday, September 6 through Tuesday, September 10, with the Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues and Leafs participating.

The teams will be split into two divisions of four clubs, playing three interdivision games in a round-robin format before crossing over on the final day of the tournament. Toronto will play against their former Norris Division rival and Stanley Cup Champion Blues on Friday, September 6 at 6:30 pm, the Hawks at 3pm on Saturday, September 7 and the Wings on Monday, September 9 at 6pm.

It is likely that the roster for the upcoming tournament will closely resemble what participated at last month’s Development Camp at the MasterCard Centre with Joseph Woll, Ian Scott, and 2019 top pick Nick Robertson joining young prospects Rasmus Sandin, Timothy Liljegren, Jeremy Bracco and other members of the Toronto Marlies.

The club will open training camp at their practice facility in Etobicoke, ON before departing for the opening camp with three days of on-ice training in St. John's, Newfoundland on Friday, September 13 and will then open the preseason against the Senators at Mile One Centre on Tuesday, September 17.
