10 Worst NHL Home/Away Jerseys

On Monday I released my rankings for the top 10 home/away jersey combinations in the league, and unsurprisingly, people were pretty polarized. Jersey rankings are entirely subjective, and I hate people agreeing with me and also calling my opinions trash. Fun stuff! Today I’ll be ranking the ten worst home/away jersey combinations, and I won’t end up doing the middle eleven since there is so much middle ground. Some of these aren’t terrible, but here are the worst in the league:

31. Anaheim Ducks

There’s nothing redeeming about these jerseys. I’m not including the third jerseys for this, but even if I was, my hot take is that those are bad too. Just considering the home and away though, the mix of orange and gold looks awful. The lines try too hard to look nice but end up looking much too out of place. It’s pretty clearly the worst jersey combination.

30: Columbus Blue Jackets

Much like many teams on this list, I love their third jerseys. However, the regular jerseys are too plain, especially the home ones that don’t even have a different colour on the shoulders. There needs to be something else on the jersey, and the tiny stripes on the bottom are pointless and unattractive. The logo is passable, but there’s nothing exciting about these jerseys.

29: Nashville Predators

Before Adidas came in, I didn’t actually mind the Predators jerseys. But some subtle changes really made all the difference---in the worst way possible. They got rid of some lines that put the jerseys together, plus there’s way too much yellow in the away jerseys now. The home’s also look too similar to practice jerseys without having much detail besides the logo.

28: Ottawa Senators

We know that the Senators could have great jerseys if they went with the Heritage O. I don’t love the old 2D Senturion, but even that would be a massive upgrade on what they currently have. I don’t think these are an absolute monstrosity like some people suggest, but in a league with some pretty solid jerseys, Ottawa is nowhere near average. Do the right thing Eugene, and go with the O.

27: Washington Capitals

With subtle changes that make their jersey look more classic, I actually like their third jersey. However, their regulars are similar to the Blue Jackets with their lines, and it reminds me too much of a child’s spring hockey team. I’d say they should stay with the vintage look and don’t go back.

26: Winnipeg Jets

I don’t necessarily hate these jerseys, but they’re just very meh. Their Heritage Classic jerseys would be one of the best in the league if they kept it as a regular, but I can’t see them going back to that logo full time. When I think of the modern-day Jets, I don’t associate them with a look, and that’s because of these incredibly mediocre jerseys.

25: Calgary Flames

It’s such a shame. Calgary’s logo is solid because it’s simple yet descriptive, but they use the wrong colour on their regulars. Their third jersey is also fantastic with the white “C,” but for some reason they over-complicate their home/aways with the wrong colour and unnecessary lines down the side. There’s so much wasted potential with this logo.
24: San Jose Sharks

I know many people who love the Sharks jerseys, but they’ve just never done it for me. There’s nothing wrong with the logo, but as with other low-ranking jerseys, the lack of action at the bottom sticks out too much. You can definitely do worse than these, but I simply prefer other designs, that’s all. Having them 24th seems a lot lower than they should be, but there are a lot of solid jerseys in the league.

23: Vegas Golden Knights

There’s a similar theme with many of these, as the Golden Knights logo is quite creative with its use of a helmet and a “V” within it. At the same time, there are too many colours and I feel like they somewhat wasted a good logo. These have definitely grown on me a bit since they came into the league, but I’d still much rather have many other jerseys.

22: Arizona Coyotes

The Coyotes have never had above average jerseys, and these ones fall into the same category that they always have---below average but not terrible. For a new team (compared to the rest of the league), their logo is decent enough, although I find the black armbands a bit off-putting. As with all of the jerseys in this range, there is nothing special about them.

Tell me why I’m awfully wrong on these opinions once again!
