Quick Hits: July 23, 2019

1) The annual World Junior Summer Showcase gets underway on Friday in Plymouth, Michigan, at USA Hockey Arena. The week-long camp will include 11 games among hopefuls for Team Canada, Finland, Sweden and Team USA. The July 31 to Aug. 3 games will be televised live on NHL Network.

During the preliminary phase (July 26-28), Team USA will be split into two squads (Team USA Blue and Team USA White) before the roster is cut down to a single squad for the remainder of the Showcase. Three Flyers prospects -- forwards Joel Farabee and Bobby Brink, as well as defenseman Cam York -- are on the Team USA roster. Adam Ginning is a returnee for Team Sweden.

2) Today marks the 20th anniversary of the horrific boating accident in Kelowna, British Columbia that took the life of young Flyers defenseman Dmitri Tertyshny. July 23 is also the memorial date for early 1970s forward Larry Mickey, who tragically took his own life at age 38 at his home in Buffalo.

3) July 23 Flyers Alumni birthday: Randy Jones (1981).
