1) World Junior Summer Showcase: Saturday is the final day of competition at the 2019 World Junior Summer Showcase in Plymouth, Mich. Sweden (featuring Flyers 2018 second-round pick Adam Ginning) plays Finland at 1 p.m. EDT before USA rematches with Canada at 4 p.m. EDT. Both games will be televised live on NHL Network.

Yesterday, none among Flyers 2018 first-round pick Joel Farabee, 2019 first-rounder Cam York or 2019 second-rounder Bobby Brink was in the lineup as Team USA fell short, 6-5, in a comeback bid against Finland. Earlier in the day, Canada downed Sweden, 5-2.

2) Two days after the New York Rangers hired former Flyers assistant coach Kris Knoblauch as head coach of the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, the organization brought in another former member of the Flyers coaching staff of recent seasons. On Friday, the Rangers announced that former Flyers assistant Gord Murphy has been brought in to serve as Knoblauch's associate head coach with Hartford.

3) On Friday, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that former Flyers winger Matt Read will be brought into training camp on a tryout deal. Now 32, Read played all or portions of seven seasons with the Flyers before signing a one-year, two-way contract with the Minnesota Wild last summer. Read appeared in 12 NHL games with the Wild last season (one goal, zero assists) but primarily spent the season in the AHL with Iowa (61 GP, 16 G, 21 A, 36 PTS during the regular season and then eight points in 10 Calder Cup playoff games).

4) August 3 Flyers Alumni birthday: Mark Lamb (1964).
