With next to nothing happening in the hockey world now, and throughout the month of August, I thought it'd be fun to profile members of the New Jersey Devils.

I'll be commenting on the year they had as well as their projected role and expectations moving forward.

These profiles will be posted in no particular order but I'm starting off with Baemon Severson because, well, of course.

Counting stats: 82 games played, 39 points (11 goals, 28 assists), 22:03 average time on ice

5v5 underlyings: 1.06 points/60, -.65 CF% Rel, -.36 GF% Rel, -1.54 xGF% Rel, 98.6 PDO

2018-19 review: I think the 2018-19 season should be regarded as a success for Severson. He led the defense in goals, assists, points, shots, scoring chances and hits while logging more than 22 minutes per night, which was a career high and more than anyone else on the roster. While there were still some defensive hiccups along the way, I think Severson did a better job of limiting them than in previous years and it didn't take away from his ability to create offense. He's looking like a bargain at $4.16 million per.

Fun fact(s): No member of the Devils recorded more primary assists than Severson (17) at 5v5. He also produced more points in that game state than the likes of Seth Jones, Jacob Trouba, Rasmus Dahlin, Victor Hedman, Alex Pietrangelo and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, to name but a few.

2019-20 outlook: Severson won't play as big of a role with P.K. Subban stepping in as the new 1RD role but he'll still be very important. I think he has a good chance of building on last season's success with a significant talent boost around him, and he should stand to benefit from less of his ice time coming against top-end talent.
