Earlier this offseason we discussed the possibility of Markov returning to the Canadiens. Turns out that the Markov clan had reached out but that the Canadiens had not followed up with his agent. This week though, Andrei Markov is vacationing in Montreal and he spoke with Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette and it is worth checking it out:

Essentially, Markov wants to reach the 1000 games milestone and says it's his dream to play with the Canadiens again. Given the state of the left side of the blue line and the fact that the Canadiens do have space on the cap and the fact that they can't seem to be able to throw money at free agents to bring them over, one more year of Markov really doesn't sound that bad to me. Even if it's just on a Plekanec like contract that sees him get to the 1000 game milestone and allows him to help out the Canadiens' anemic power play before skating in the sunset.

For those of you who dearly miss hockey during summer, there are a few interesting activities coming up in the next 10 days of so. Tomorrow night, the Centre Videotron will host the 11th edition of the Pro Am Gagné Bergeron. This year, the event will be a little more special as its tailgate will be used to unveil the Stastny brothers statue on Place Jean Béliveau. While I've never been a Nordiques fan, it's impossible not to respect the impact that Peter, Anton and Marian had on the NHL, the Quebec outfit and even european hockey, making it clear that european players could come over to America and find success.

Of course, some hockey will also be played, Philip Danault and Joel Bouchard will be representing the Canadiens' organization:

Then, on Friday and Saturday, the Peps de l'Université Laval will be hosting the Sleeman Boot Camp which is essentially a mini-tournament pitting 6 teams made of pro players against each other. Danault will be attending this one as well alongside Xavier Ouellet, Alex Belzile, William Pelletier, Alexandre Alain, Alex Grenier, Antoine Waked, Ryan Culkin and Phil Hudon from the Canadiens camp. Notable attendees also include Sean Couture, Anthony Beauvillier, Samuel Girard, Samuel Blais, Yanni Gourde and Thomas Chabot to name a few.

Quebec City is not the only place to see some pro NHL players perform though, on August 17th the Classique Kevin Raphael will take place in Laval and all proceeds will got to Leucan. This one features NHLers, professional female players and Quebec comedians.

While this will be a welcome little dose of hockey during a rather long summer, there's nothing like the real thing...Cannot wait for the training camp to finally roll around...I think Chantal Machabée's Facebook post sums it up best:
