It sometimes feels like nothing is going on day to day in August, but what I have found is simple...when millions of dollars are at stake someone is stressed about it.
On Provorov...
The Flyers are putting the ball firmly in Provorov's court right now by essentially not doing anything...just waiting on the other D men....McAvoy and Werenski....who are in turn waiting on Provorov...This may sound like nothing at all happening, but to know these three competitors you can be sure they are growing impatient by the second. These are three players who LOVE to play the game and HATE the business involved...and Provorov is the kind of player who just wants this over....This game of chicken is getting old and as of now the teams are banking on the players calling their agents and saying, "Get this deal over with."
The problem is...these agents are not going to bite...and the teams do have issues here as bad blood is starting to build between them and the players...
On Brock Boeser....
Many I talk to feel the first big RFA to sign will either be Brock Boeser or Brayden Point...I tend to think it will be Boeser on a 4 year deal around 30M...That could start the dominos and lead towards shorter term deals for the RFA's.
On Marner...
A source confirmed to me that for the first time in a while the sides are going to meet face to face and everyone now is pointing towards a shorter term deal...If these talks go south all bets could be off though...
On Markov...
Markov is 40 and wants to play one more season with the Canadiens....It may happen, but I am told that the Canadiens are still talking to the agent for Jake Gardiner...Gardiner is their first choice...
