3) Congratulations to United States Marine Corps veteran Jim Young for being selected as the inaugural captain of the Flyers Warrior Hockey team. The Flyers Warriors are preparing for their first season of competition. In the weeks to come, Warrior coach Brad Marsh (who is also the Flyers director of community development and president of the Flyers Alumni Association) will have a special announcement about the new team.

4) TIHF: On Aug. 8, 2012, Flyers 2012 first round draft pick Scott Laughton signed his entry-level contract. He would make the Flyers NHL roster at the start of the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season before returning to the OHL's Oshawa Generals after a five-game cup of coffee with the big team. Laughton would next play in the NHL in 2014-15.

5) Aug. 8 Flyers Alumni birthday: The head coach of the two-time defending NCAA champion Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, Scott Sandelin, was born on this day in 1964. Acquired from Montreal in the deal that sent J.J. Daigneault to the Canadiens, Sandelin spent 15 games of his 25-game NHL career with the Flyers during the 1991-92 season under Paul Holmgren. Sandelin also spent two and a half seasons with the Flyers' AHL affiliate of the time, the Hershey Bears.
