Islanders/Flyers Preseason Recap (Game 2)

The New York Islanders improved to 2-0 in the preseason, beating the Philadelphia Flyers for a second night in a row. Here's another brief summary and some thoughts on the game.

Derick Brassard, Jordan Eberle and Mason Jobst had the goals for the Islanders, while Thomas Greiss and Jared Coreau each allowed a goal in the win.

Mathew Barzal looked excellent. He created both of New York's first two goals, was controlling play and looked like the best player on the ice for the majority of the game. Noah Dobson looked good overall and didn't back down from any physical play but also got knocked off the puck a bit too easily a few times in the Islanders' end. Speaking of prospects, you can just tell Oliver Wahlstrom will be a goal scorer at the NHL level. He had five shots on goal and that release coming down the wing is going to be deadly in a couple of years.

Tanner Fritz is doing everything he can to make the team. He had a great block (I think it was in the first period) and was battling hard. Parker Wotherspoon actually looked very comfortable for the most part, especially while controlling the puck in the offensive end. He could be a good candidate to quietly rise up the depth chart this year.

If you watched last night, there's probably nothing new in here but hopefully this provides some notes for the folks who weren't able to get to see it. It was a fun game but once the herd starts thinning out, it's going to be really exciting to see this roster start to take shape.
