Which team would be the best fit if Taylor Hall is traded?

It’s widely assumed Taylor Hall won’t be willing to re-sign in New Jersey if they aren’t a playoff team or, at the very least, close to being one.

Should the Devils find themselves well out of the race by the deadline, and deem it necessary to trade Hall, there would undoubtedly be a long line of suitors.

We’re going to share our thoughts on some that make the most sense.

I think Montreal would be a great fit in the event Hall gets traded. They are a really fast team that routinely out-shoots and out-chances their opponents. The biggest issue for them has been taking advantage of the positive differential and finishing some of those opportunities. They don’t have much firepower or gamebreaking ability on the roster. Hall, who has 135 points in 116 games as a member of the Devils, would certainly help address that.

The Canadiens are in a good enough spot financially where it wouldn’t be too difficult to make a Hall extension work long-term. They also have plenty of young roster players, quality prospects, and draft picks to try and make it worthwhile for the Devils *if* we reach the point where a trade has to be seriously considered.

To say no one, because the Devils are going to turn things around and Hall will re-sign would be boring so let's stir the pot some more and say the Edmonton Oilers.

It makes sense on a number of levels. Hall himself has stated he felt he had unfinished business in Edmonton and really want to be a part of the solution here.

As far as assets go, Edmonton has a number of young forwards in Yamamoto, McLeod, Benson, and even Puljujarvi that could be part of a package, along with defensemen like Bear, Jones, Broberg, Samorukov and others that could meet the usual requirements of a deadline deal.

Providing Edmonton could find a way to take on his 6 million dollar cap this season, the Oil will have over 24 million next season to be able to offer Hall an extension as well. The likelihood of this happening is slim but it's not out of the realm of possible.
