. Fast Start – As I mentioned at the end of my last post, the Capitals had a disastrous start to the game against Florida on Thursday and if they played like that against Vegas, it would be a long night. Fortunately, the boys in red clearly heard me and they started the game BUZZIN! Kuznetsov scored 58 second into the frame and Tom Wilson followed about five minutes later. Shots were 11-7 in favor of the Capitals in the first period.

2. Vegas PK – This PK is legit and they are number in the league for a reason! They killed 5/6 penalties including a 5 on 3 for about a minute. The only goal they allowed to the Caps was a leaky one by Flurry. I am sure he would love to have back. It was a 3-2 game for the Caps at that point and Vegas had been controlling much of the play in the third. This goal really seemed to deflate the Golden Knights and they started to unravel the rest of the game. Vegas took four penalties in the third frame, yikes.

3. Braden Holtby – his number may not look fantastic on paper but he has played well as of late and had another strong game against Vegas. The Golden Knights were putting lots of pressure and pucks on net and Holtby was swallowing up every attempt. I do not believe there was a single rebound shot in the third period when Vegas was applying pressure. Shots were going through traffic and Holtby always seemed to be in great position.

STAT ATTACK

-Jonas Siegenthaler scored his first NHL goal. He also had a game high 5 blocked shots. He also lead and typically leads the Capitals in shorthanded TOI.

-The newly configured second line of Vrana-Kuznetsov-Wilson has been on a tear as of late. They had both opening goals for the game and have put up 10 goals and 11 assists the last four games. Damnnn, Daniel!

-John Carlson moved up to second in all-time points for a Capitals defenseman. He had another fantastic night which included the primary assist on the pivotal PPG to go up 4-2 midway through the third.

-The Capitals have earned a point in 11 straight games (10-0-1). During the 11-game stretch the Captials have scored four goals 10 times and at least five goals seven times!

-This was the Capitals 8th straight game with a Multi-Goal scorer. This is the longest streak in team history.

Next Game: Today at home against the Arizona Coyotes. The Capitals and Coyotes have spilit 1-1 the past six seasons in a row. Caps have won four of the last Six home games in the matchup. Go Caps.
