Random stuff…

Woof… glad that road trip is done… The Nashville Predators finished off a four game, four time zone road trip at 1-2-1, starting off with a dominating win in Detroit before an ugly loss in Colorado, a decent shootout loss in San Jose and an weird loss last night to a young, fast, hungry Vancouver team. Two of the losses… including last night, came to teams on extended losing streaks. The only reason the Preds are still in third place in the Central is because Winnipeg didn’t show up against Colorado last night.

Now the Predators find themselves on the other end of the ledger. They are on a three-game losing streak and will get a couple of practices in before welcoming the Chicago Blackhawks to town on Saturday night.

A couple of nights off between games should do this team well as they struggle to find the offensive spark they had at the beginning of the roadie and try and get their special teams back on track.

Moving on… I do want to mention a little bit about Don Cherry, who was dumped by Sportnet after his latest segment where he complained about a segment of Canadian population not wearing poppies for Remembrance Day… Canada’s version of Veteran’s Day. I can’t help but think that Cherry being sacked had a lot to do with the catalog of controversial remarks the man made over his career. Against women reporters, against European players, against “left-wing pinkos” … his support of veterans is well known and lauded, however his great message gets lost when he goes off on these controversial rants.

There is a certain sense of irony that Cherry went down in the way that he did… these types of bombastic commentators in sports do tend to go out that way, but it is a shame that it ended like this

Read Ek’s piece on this… it is outstanding!
