Mario Kempe has found himself a new home in Russia. 2019 champion CSKA Moscow announced that they have signed the forward to a two-year deal.
Just this past week Kempe was put on waivers by Los Angeles Kings and his contract was terminated by the NHL club.
Kempe didn't dress for Kings at the NHL level this season as he was assigned to AHL's Ontario Reign after the training camp. He played 16 games at the AHL level scoring three goals and recording eight assists.
This won't be the first time Kempe has played in the KHL as he spent three years playing for Vityaz Podolsk team and was one of their leaders. In 2017 he moved to North America and signed with Arizona Coyotes.
It had been rumored for a while that Kempe was eyeing a return to KHL and there were at least three teams expressing serious interest. Amongst them were Bob Hartley's Avangard Omsk team and three-time Gagarin Cup champions - AkBars Kazan.
