Back-to-Back for Both: Cats vs Sharks

The Cats have a quick turnaround, coming off a great win last night, to face the San Jose Sharks this afternoon.

I thought yesterday's win was one of their best performances this entire season. They went up and never gave up. The message seemed to be received by Bob (at least for now), as he was stellar in net against his former team. In fact, this was his best game if you ask me. He was confident and poised, but most importantly, his positioning was fantastic. He never found himself off his angles and scrambling to adjust/get back.

Perhaps the best thing about last night was the quality of shots. While the number of pucks to the net last night was less than in their past few games (27), the quality was far better because they had guys out front distributing CBJ's goalie. Is it possible they read our blog yesterday...HA!

How about Brown Cow? Big game for #2. He needed it. That was a great read by him to pinch in low. With a goal and spirited tilt, he was just an assist away from the Gordy Howe Hat Trick...maybe tonight!

Shark Bite

Last night's play should carry over into this afternoon as the Panthers prepare for the 15-14-2 Sharks.

San Jose took a 7-1 beating from the Lightning last night and are currently 0-23 on the PP in their last 10 games. So they're prime for the pouncing...

From ESPN:

"San Jose will also be facing a Florida offense that entered Saturday fifth in the NHL in goals per game (3.44) and tied for seventh in the league in power-play conversion percentage (22.9). The Panthers went 1-for-4 on their power play on Saturday.

From San Jose's perspective, holding the Panthers under three goals is the main objective. The Sharks have an active NHL record with 45 consecutive wins in games they have allowed two or fewer goals.

The Sharks, who haven't won a game since Nov. 30, are led in goals by Evander Kane (13), in points by Logan Couture and in assists by Erik Karlsson and Couture (20 each).

Karlsson, the NHL's highest-paid defenseman, played a season-high 29:45 against Carolina on Thursday and 24:33 versus Tampa Bay."

Jones and Dell can be somewhat shaky in net for SJ, so having the same game plan as yesterday (quality shots with traffic in front) will be key for Florida.

The Cats don't usually fare well in back-to-back games, but this is a pretty good matchup in terms of opponent to have a quick turnaround against. Getting a win today will be a nice boost as they head into a tough three games after today (TBL, NYI, BOS).

Let's get that win and keep the positive homestand moving, boys!

Go Panthers!
