Are the Leafs looking to the KHL to solve their backup issues?

With the KHL implementing a salary cap next season, the pipeline of European players potentially heading to the NHL is likely to get busy. Some clubs like the Toronto Maple Leafs have had success with players like Nikita Zaitsev and more recently with winger Ilya Mikheyev, but their pressing need is to find a backup for Frederik Andersen.

Earlier this month, reports indicated that Toronto had interest in 24-year-old Russian goalie Timur Bilyalov, but he is under contract to his club until the end of the KHL season. If the Leafs are looking for more immediate help, they appear unwilling to pay the price for an upgrade from another NHL club, but could they be interested in a free agent like former NHLer Jhonas Enroth?

The 31-year-old was one of the backups that Mike Babcock had no confidence in three years ago, but since then he played well for two seasons with Dinamo Minsk before leaving the club recently. Will GM Kyle Dubas stick with Michael Hutchinson (who won his first game last Saturday) a bit longer hoping that the price of backup options become more reasonable or will he start looking elsewhere right after the holiday trade freeze??
