The Buffalo Sabres have been slowly declining in the Eastern Conference playoff race after a good start. GM Jason Botterill has been seeking to trade off some of his defensive depth and get some help up front and did that on Thursday, sending pending UFA Marco Scandella to Montreal for a 2020 4th round pick, and then flipping the pick to Calgary for winger Michael Frolik.
The Flames open up over $4 Million in cap space with the deal, which may help them closer to the deadline to make other moves.
