The Detroit Red Wings called up Hirose and Lindstrom with Frans Nielsen going to IR and Mike Green going on retroactive IR. Lindstrom is a 6’2” right shooting defenseman, and had some good moments during development camp and training camp last summer. His parents are flying in (are already in Buffalo) and it should be an exciting night for the young Dman. Drafted in the second round in 2017, this 21 year old has shown positive signs of development. You can read the official release Here

For Taro Hirose, this call up will serve to be a glimpse of what the stint in Grand Rapids has done for his game. When he joined the team last year out of Michigan State, the free agent signing showed well, garnering assists in his first several games. This year was a much tougher start. Detroit sent him down to work on his professional game, with the intent that he would have a long stay. It would be a boost to the organization if Hirose can start clicking again.

In the realm of disturbing and good news at the same time, Mantha practiced without the orange jersey (no contact jersey). He revealed that it wasn’t a “rib” problem, he had a punctured lung and that’s what took 6 weeks to heal. The pain NHLers experience can be next level. Patrice Bergeron tried to play through a puncture a few years ago in the post season. It’s nightmare level pain. I truly hope the team let’s Muzzin know their “disappointment” in his slew foot during the next contest. Someone needs to stand up for these players at some point.

And, finally, in the category of eye rolling due to mismanaged roster spots, Wings Nation released this as thursday’s line combinations (it may change, dear Lord it needs to) - with song titles as descriptors

Fabbri-Larkin-Helm (2 out of 3 ain’t bad)
Bertuzzi-Filpppula-Abdelkader(last resort)
Athanasiou-Glendening-Hirose(break stuff)
Smith-Ehn-Erne (one is the loneliest number)

Cholowski-Hronek (living on a prayer - halfway there)
Nemeth-Biega (stuck in the middle)
Daly-Lindstrom (New kid in town)

Bernier starts (all by myself or stand alone)

Have some fun with this. Give me your song titles and vent your frustrations. In all likelihood, these lines could be switched in the first 2 minutes anyway. I will provide any updates as they become available
