Update - no official word still on Malte but here’s some “tweet truth”

In the continued pondering and “guesstimating” as the trade deadline draws nigh, it was only natural to take a closer look at the first round of the 2014 draft. Yzerman acquired Robby Fabbri (21st) and Brendan Perlini (12th) this year, both drafted in the same round as Dylan Larkin(15th). You can see the full draft here

Here is the list of players that COULD be available. Pick who you think Yzerman could get and guess the return. If you’re right, I’ll publish it and give you internet kudos!

Michael Dal Colle LW(shoots L 5th NYI) - bio page

Haydn Fleury D(shoots L 7th CAR) (bio page

Kevin Fiala LW (shoots L 11th NASH now MN)bio page

Julius Honka D (shoots R 14th DAL hold out)bio page

Sonny Milano LW (shoots L 16th CBJ) bio page

Travis Sanheim D (shoots L 17th PHI) bio page

Alex Tuch RW (shoots R 18th MN now VGK) bio page

Anthony DeAngelo D (shoots R 19th TBL now NYR) bio page

Jared McCann C (shoots L 24th VAN now PIT) bio page

Josh Ho-Sang RW (shoots R 28th NYI now ?) bio page

Adrian Kempe C (shoots L 29th LAK) bio page

* there are some notable absences on this list due to either a near 0% chance they’d ever be traded (see Pastrnak) or a contract that would be too much to take (see Schmaltz) or just not a player Yzerman would likely even look at (see Scherbak). Others that made the list are a long shot. Sanheim may never be moved, but Philly is trying to trade Ghostisbhere and may not be able to. DeAngelo will probably only be moved if a contract can’t be agreed upon.

Knowing that Detroit needs defensemen, Haydn Fleury would be an intriguing pickup. Again, there is no sign that Carolina would shop him, but they are looking for scoring. Julius Honka is another interesting possibility. The fact that he sat out the entire year probably indicates a move would be made nearer to the draft. Yzerman and Nill are obviously very familiar with one another, and Nill certainly still knows some of the players on Detroit’s roster.

Josh Ho-Sang, I just don’t know. Yzerman has been on the opposite side of this situation with Drouin. It seems doubtful that he would have an appetite to take on a player that Lou would rather have sit than play even in the minor leagues. There have been rumors of locker room issues, and unless the player has a massive change of heart, he doesn’t strike most as a good team player. Not ideal for a young group in the trenches right now.

So, take a crack. There are a few names that could aid this rebuild (in my opinion). Put together a package and let’s see if it sticks! There will be a follow up post after tomorrow’s tilt against Boston. The Bruins are coming off of a 4-2 win against the Coyotes in Boston and will be traveling to LCA for an early tilt. We’ll see how the Wings fare against one of the top teams in the league.
