No, this is not about who or why will the Montreal Canadians will acquire prior to Monday's NHL Trade deadline.
However this is about Montreal tapping into Russia once again.
20-year old Alexander Romanov might be on his way to North America next season. (I'm about 99% sure that he will, however there is still that 1% where he decides to take money over quality development which is why I'm using ''might''). Romanov was drafted #38 overall by the Canadiens in 2018.
And he isn't the only one - Alexei Marchenko is looking for a chance to return to the NHL and his name has been tied to Montreal Canadiens. The 28-year-old is playing for CSKA Moscow in the KHL and he is a close friend to young Romanov. There's clearly a fit and interest from both the player and the team. A source has also suggested that Marchenko would be okay to play at a discounted rate if offered a chance to return to NHL.
This clearly is going to be exciting summer for Montreal regardless of what happens with these two.
