It's trade deadline day, one of the best days for hockey fans in the year! I will update this throughout the morning with all the Oilers related information that appears.

ENNIS ALSO AN OILER!

Wow, Ken Holland continues to add as the Edmonton Oilers have acquired Tyler Ennis in exchange for a 5th round pick in 2021. Winger depth was the biggest concern for the Oil and Holland has certainly addressed that today.

ATHANASIOU SIGNED

Don't know what the cost was but the Oilers have aquired Andreas Athanasiou from the Detroit Red Wings. Will update soon! Edmonton has acquired their winger/third line centre.

UPDATE

It looks like two second round picks have been moved for Athanasiou, no other Oilers players involved in the deal. Not a bad price, considering Athanasiou is an RFA at the end of this season. Holland wanted to go after more than just a rental. It also looks like Sam Gagner is going to Detroit as part of the deal. Sad to see Gagner go, but it does move his 3.1 million dollar contract off the books.

Ryan Kuffner, a 23 year old left wing prospect also is part of the package going to Edmonton.

MIKE GREEN SIGNED

Last night, Holland got the ball rolling for Edmonton by acquiring right shooting defenseman from the Detroit Red Wings, Mike Green. The 34 year old Green was traded for Kyle Brodziak, who was on LTIR for the Oilers and a fourth round pick this season that becomes a third round pick in 2021 IF Edmonton reaches the Conference Finals and Green plays in at least half of those games. I love weird conditions. Detroit retained half of Green's salary, which is roughly 2.7 million.

Having more veteran depth defensemen is never a bad thing and Green has some decent numbers on a very poor Detroit team. This is not the move people were expecting Holland to make and it looks like more is going to happen.

This COULD mean that another Oilers defenseman is on the move such as Matt Benning or Adam Larsson but this could also simply be a response to the other news I have below.

KRIS RUSSELL TO LTIR

It's now being reported as well that Kris Russell is also being put on LTIR, freeing up another 4 million dollars in space. Andreas Athanasiou was kept out of the lineup last night so that still might be the guy Holland is after but other options like Tatar are still out there.

I will continue to update you as the day moves forward!
