March to the Cup: Jaromir Jagr Conference semifinals RESULTS |

March to the Cup is where you will vote on hypothetical playoff matchups in a bracket style setup mimicking the NCAA basketball tournaments. Here is the setup.
I’m going to seed all 31 teams based on the current overall standings with one play in game because of the odd number of teams. You will have a chance to vote on who you think should win the matchup. I’ll give some brief overviews and you’ll use those and your own intuition to make your selections. The results will be hidden until the next blog when the results are revealed. We will go round by round until we have a winner. Who knows? Maybe our selection will be the only winner this season.
This is all hypothetical. However you want to analyze things, go for it. If you want to assume every team has full health, go for it. Anything goes in the Coronavirus era of hypothetical playoff hockey.
The results are in and we have ourselves the final four teams in the tournament.
(1) Boston Bruins vs (8) Vegas Golden Knights
The second closest vote of the tournament and rightly so. Both teams are really good and there are fair arguments for both sides for advancing to the Conference Finals. My guess is the voters felt better about the Golden Knights having more depth at forward and having Robin Lehner on the roster. Also, Vegas hasn’t had a long history to piss off a lot of fanbases yet while the Bruins… well they’re the Bruins.
I voted for Vegas
(4) Tampa Bay Lightning vs (5) Washington Capitals
Alexander Ovechkin and Ilya Kovalchuk’s livers are safe for now. They will not be having a month’s long party back home in Russia celebrating another Stanley Cup. The voters are clearly impressed with Tampa Bay’s roster and did not give credence to Washington winning the best division in hockey.
I was in the group who thinks highly Tampa Bay’s roster.
Here is an updated bracket. Final four is here.
Tomorrow you can vote on the Mario Lemieux Conference Finals
