Quick Hits: April 6, 2020

1) If not for the coronavirus pandemic, the Philadelphia Flyers regular season would have ended on Saturday afternoon and, by today, they would have known their playoff first-round schedule. As things stand now, the Flyers played at least one game against 29 of the other 30 teams in the NHL. The one exception was the Nashville Predators. The Flyers would have played in Nashville on March 21 with the Predators visiting the Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center on April 2. Whether some, all, or none of the unplayed 13 games remaining on the regular season schedule will be made up -- or if and when the Stanley Cup playoffs are played -- remains to be seen.

2) The Lehigh Valley Phantoms would have had three games games remaining on their schedule. The final home game would have been on Wednesday against the Binghamton Devils before visiting Hartford on Friday and Providence on Saturday. An upcoming blog will look at the Phantoms' disappointing 2019-20 season, which started off well enough in the early weeks of the season but then went off the rails and never truly got righted.

Last week, Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher categorized this Phantoms season as one that failed to meet expectations from a team standpoint but a positive one from the player development standpoint.

3) Today in Flyers History: On April 6, 2008, Martin Biron (20 saves) earned the fifth shutout of his Flyers career in a tight-checking game 2-0 win at the Wachovia Center over the Pittsburgh Penguins. A late second period goal by Scottie Upshall (14th) stands up until Mike Knuble (29th goal, assist on Upshall goal) seals the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minute of regulation. Jeff Carter assists on both Flyers' goals.

4) April 6 Flyers Alumni birthdays: Bo Berglund (1955), Hal Gill (1975), Jeff Harding (1969), Michel "Bunny" Larocque (!952-1992), David Sloane (1985).
