IIHF has announced the new ranking, USA - Canada in same Olympic group

The IIHF announced their new ranking on Friday which meant that they Olympic groups were also determined.

Per IIHF:

The 2020 rankings include points from the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship program in the men’s senior category. For tournaments that were not played due to the coronavirus pandemic, the points will be given according to the seeding position as foreseen in the IIHF Sport Regulations.


Top 20 ranking in order as awarded:

Canada, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Czech Republic, United States, Germany, Switzerland, Slovakia, Latvia, Norway, Denmark, Belarus, France, Italy, Kazakhstan, Austria, Korea, Great Britain, Slovenia.

Beijing 2022 Olympic games men's hockey groups:

Group A:
1st seed - Canada
6th seed - United States
7th seed - Germany
12th seed (host nation) China

Group B:
2nd seed - Russia
5th seed - Czech Republic
8th seed - Switzerland
11th seed - Qualifier 3 (TBD)

Group C:
3rd seed - Finland
4th seed - Sweden
9th seed - Qualifier 1 (TBD)
10th seed - Qualifier 2 (TBD)


Per IIHF:

The Olympic Qualification for the men’s teams has already started in November 2019 and will end with the Final Olympic Qualification scheduled for 27-30 August 2020 in the following groups:

Group D: Slovakia, Belarus, Austria, Poland. In Bratislava, Slovakia.
Group E: Latvia, France, Italy, Hungary. In Riga, Latvia.
Group F: Norway, Denmark, Korea, Slovenia. In Norway (city TBA).
