Carolina Hurricanes prospect Joey Keane has been named to the AHL’s 2019-20 All-Rookie Team.

The Hurricanes acquired the right-handed defenseman in February, sending 2016 first-round pick Julien Gauthier back the other way. In nine games with Charlotte, Keane scored seven points and finished the season with an impressive 37 points in 58 games overall.

Keane will be back in the AHL next season but if all goes well, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him compete for a roster spot in 2021. He’s just 20 years old so it’ll be interesting to see how he fits into the mix with the Hurricanes long-term but with Dougie Hamilton and Brett Pesce around, it’ll be difficult for him to break into the top-four on the right side.
