Wings Prospect Albert Johansson , last year’s 60th overall pick. The 6’1” Dman spent last season in the SHL. Interesting to see how his development will be going forward

Steve Yzerman and Free Agency Was the topic last time. Detroit’s GM will look to improve, but isn’t going to make a “splash” in the market. Sound theory and it backs up his belief in the building process.

The 2020 draft Is approaching (sort of) and we took a look at the potential top candidates for Detroit in picking anywhere in the first 4. Some of you went off the board and it’s time to take a look at those potential hidden gems.

Marco Rossi Is another player fitting the newer NHL style. At 5’9”, he’s a left shot center that scored 39 goals and had 81 assists in 56 games last year. I immediately think of Tyler Johnson and the impact this player could make. While I don’t think he’ll go in the top 4, this could be a player that leaves some GMs wishing they’d gone with substance over size.

Yaroslav Askarov Looks to be a potential star goaltender. At 6’2” this right catching
Goalie has made his way into the top 10 of some draft simulations. Goal tending is sorely needed in Detroit, but it’s hard to think Yzerman would use a top 4 pick. If this is a player the GM wants, he would most likely trade down to make it work (acquiring an additional pick).

Cole Perfetti Was mentioned as another center who could surprise a lot of people. Hockey prospects has him picked at 4. With 37 goals and 74 assists in 61 games, there is a lot to like for this pick.

Tag Bertuzzi Was mentioned by one reader. Drafted 2nd overall in junior (2017), Tag started his career with Guelph, as his dad Todd and cousin Tyler both did. Unfortunately, his career was derailed a bit by injury. He was traded to Hamilton and this past year seemed to find his groove. With 25 goals and 22 assists in 57 games, Tag has started to show potential many saw during his younger days with the Little Caesars team. A center at 6’1”, Tag is a powerful player. Glimpses of his being able to fend off a defender with one arm while skating the puck harken back to his father’s strength in the corners. Tag went undrafted last year and some sites say that will be the case again. Tag could be a huge get for a team willing to take a chance in the later rounds. This highlight play shows the sense and ability of the young center. Sick mitts, slick play.

I hope you enjoyed this glance at some potential diamonds. Let me know in the comments what you think of these players and potential for Yzerman to look twice.
