Detroit released a behind the scenes documentary. Click the link to go back to episode one. Episodes two and three look at the preseason game against St. Louis and the first 11 games of the regular season. All episodes are now available, and I’ll post thoughts on each one this week.
Highlights include the Kraft Hockeyville preseason finale. In a bit of “foreshadowing”, the camera focuses on Robby Fabbri in the St. Louis locker room. It is easy to forget how much fun the guys were having at that point. LARMANZZI was in full groove mode, Athanasiou looked really good. There was some hope that the season would be an improvement over last year.
Episode three is the full rollercoaster. Surprise wins against Dallas and Nashville with Mantha scoring 5 goals in 2 games. Larkin, Bertuzzi, Glendening and Helm all pitch in early on and Hronek leaps into the spotlight. Those good feelings went the way of an 8 game losing streak. The episode ends with that win against Edmonton that momentarily stopped the bleeding. Good feelings again.
The painful stretches after those first few fun glimpses really did turn the season in an awful way. Even win 1, lose 2 or win 2 lose 4 has a bit more breakup than some of the long winless streaks. Keep these episodes handy and enjoy them!!
