Episodes two and three look at the preseason game against St. Louis and the first 11 games of the regular season.
Episode 4 could be labeled “Elation or Frustration”. There’s no in between. For
Episode 5 the word “Oasis” comes to mind. That being the case,
episode 6 is a trip back to Death Valley.

The continued struggle for Detroit sees them plummet 3 spots again. 2 years in a row, and it’s more than unfortunate. A good player will be available, though it’s possible that it won’t be Stutzle. It remains to be seen, as Yzerman has continued to be very good from the scouting perspective.
The disappointment is expected, on my part and on the part of many. It doesn’t make it sting less. This process is broken. A team that would have finished outside the bottom 8, and as high as fourth overall, is going to have a top overall pick. That should disgust viewers. The biggest jump ever to #1, and many of us felt it coming.
There is no comfort to be had in this process, or in the league’s decision making. Should Lafreniere find his way to Pittsburgh, Toronto, New York, Carolina or ?, how does that impact your view of these things? Bill Daly’s response is awful to watch. It truly feels that this is what the league wanted from the time the changes were announced.
This brief respite from that series is to take a quick look at how the balls bounced for Detroit. At first glance I didn’t recognize Yzerman. He’s looked so young for so long, kind of a “Paul Newman” syndrome. The short hair and goatee and glasses were the sign of time going on. It’s always tough. Gordie Howe looked young for so long too. Somehow you feel like your heroes will stay young forever.
Yzerman has truly moved through all phases of this great sport. From tiny tike to superstar and on to GM. It would be amazing to see him as an owner one day.
