Earlier today, the Flyers announced that center/left wing Scott Laughton has won the 2019-20 Yanick Dupre Memorial Class Guy Award.

Chosen by the members of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association, the award honors a player who displays exemplary character and comports himself with dignity and respect.

Laughton has become one of the local media's go-to players after wins and losses alike. He's candid and honest in assessing both the team's performance and his own. Back in training camp last September, Laughton approached every day as if he was a roster bubble player just trying to win a spot on the team, rather than like a guy with a guaranteed spot. He carried it right over to very strong regular season, despite some injuries.

"It's very special for me to be awarded this by our media," said Laughton. "Throughout the year I try and bring positive energy to the rink and do all the little things to be a good teammate and representative of the organization. Getting more involved in the community has been important to me and I hope to continue to build on that each year."

On Wednesday, the Flyers will announce the winner of the 2019-20 Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Award. Selected by the players themselves, this award honors the teammate who improved the most over the course of this season. Potential honorees include defenseman Phil Myers, leading scorer Travis Konecny and Laughton. If not for his cancer diagnosis last December, Oskar Lindblom may have become the second Swede to win the award named in countryman Lindbergh's honor. The inaugural winner was Mikael Renberg.

2) The Covid-19 pandemic forced the Flyers Alumni Association to cancel many of their key fundraising events scheduled for this spring and early summer. Among the casualties were the Friday Night Fights event (in memory of Dave Schultz's granddaughter, Annalise Schultz, who lost her fight with a rare and aggressive form of pediatric brain cancer), the 2020 Alumni Golf Invitational, the Flyers Alumni vs. Reading Royals Alumni Game and the Flyers Alumni vs. Flyers Warriors game.

In order to continue its mission to raise money for the charities and community organizations they support, the Flyers Alumni had to get creative in coming up with fun -- but also safe and socially distanced -- fundraising events for Flyers fans.

One such event will be the "Night Out at Home" event at 6:30 p.m. ET on July 29. It will be a virtual wine-tasting event on Zoom, co-hosted in conjunction with Snider Hockey and WTSO (WinesTilSoldOut.com). The event will feature stories and chat with Danny Briere, Bill Clement and Brad Marsh, and wines selected by sommelier Jimmy Qualie.

In order to select a wine-tasting package and register for the event, click here to jump directly to WTSO's event sign-up page. Proceeds benefit the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation.

3) July 7 Flyers Alumni birthday: Andrei Kovalenko (1970).
