It’s the news most people in Sens Nation have been waiting for: The Ottawa Senators are set to bring back the 2D jerseys. While the return to glory has been speculated for some time, The Athletic’s Hailey Salvian brought a significant dose of legitimacy to the table with some stellar reporting on the topic:
It’s happening. And that’s a good thing.
The Senators’ current “3D” branding leaves a lot to be desired. Often found near the bottom in fan-generated online NHL jersey rankings, it feels clunky, cartoonish, and underwhelming. Those feelings are exacerbated by the fact that the Senators have the 2D look and Heritage O in their portfolio, both of which outshine the current styling by a material margin. Bringing in the refreshed jerseys as the team begins a new era of competitiveness makes a lot of sense.
While no firm details have been released by the team, Salvian’s reporting did allow for Twitter to run wild with concept mockups. Many of them are glorious, including the ones linked below:
Regardless of which design they ultimately go with, anything close to those above is a step in the right direction. They’ll be popular. It’s giving the fans what they want, with the added bonus of generating merchandise sales for the team. Call it a win-win situation.
As always, thanks for reading.
