The Los Angeles Kings announced today that prospect Tobias Bjornfort has been loaned to Djurgardens of the SHL. As part of the loan, however, Bjornfot is able to return to the Kings organization for the 2020-21 season.
The LA Kings have loaned defenseman Tobias Bjornfot to Djurgardens IF in the SHL.
Bjornfot spent the 2019-20 season in the AHL with the Ontario Reign, where he had 19 points in 44 games to go along with a plus-13 rating. He was also called up to the NHL for three games.
The move makes sense, considering even the AHL season isn’t expected to start until December and the hope is that European leagues will be able to start on time. This allows Bjornfot to be playing quite a bit earlier than he would be in North America. However, once the NHL season is set to begin, it's likely that Bjornfot is brought back to compete for a roster spot. It may still be too early to bet on him making the Kings out of camp, but he’s one of Los Angeles’ top prospects and he’d at least be given a chance compete for a spot in the lineup.
