The NHL has announced the three finalists of the King Clancy Award. The Award is given annually to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.

Along with PK, Henrik Lundqvist and Matt Dumba also made the final list. And all three deservingly so.

Each NHL team nominates their representative for consideration. This much be a hard Award to decide because I do believe the NHL Players, as a whole, is the most philanthropic, giving and humanitarian bunch and I always happy to read the many things NHL players do in their communities.

PK is no stranger to the award being nominated for it, he has never won the Award.

PK has made an impact everywhere he has been, Montreal, Nashville and now New Jersey with his work for the Montreal Children’s Hospital, Blueline Buddies program, Subban Defence League And the PK Subban Foundation to name a few. He also recently donated $50,000 to the family of George Floyd.

As much an entertainer Subban is, he is also a giver and uses his position to give back and make a difference. There is no doubting that.

He along with his fiancée , former Olympic skier, Lindsey Vonn make a power couple and are very public on their social media (check them out if you haven’t). This gives you an open access to who PK really is.

At times I wish PK would focus less on his “public persona” but I have come to learn this is who he really is and not till I got to see him in New Jersey did I realize what he is all about. And his off season strength and conditioning work has been impressive, he looks like a player that wants to comeback better and make an impact.

The Devils got a shell of PK’s former self when they acquired him from Nashville. PK did not impress on the ice often looking lost in a new system. But what they did get is a person who wears his big heart on his sleeve and has given a lot back never forgetting his roots, and this nomination is a reflection of that.

Congratulations PK on the nomination and May this be the year you receive it!

Truly yours,
The Devils Advocate
