NHL At Least Tries to do the Right Thing

The NHL cancelled it's games yesterday to protest the ongoing police brutality and overall racism of policing in North America. Though, unlike the NBA no official NHL message contained the important words Black Lives Matter.

The NHL and its fans will hopefully take the postponement of playoff games and at the very least ask some questions and do some research.

If that is true - and it is 100% true - then clearly racism is a huge problem among law enforcement. There is no real plausible alternative.

Clearly concrete steps are needed, and while it was nice of Sportsnet to have "The Conversation" last night in place of hockey, the fact that hockey seems very careful about not saying specifically that Black Lives Matter.

It's nice to see the NHL get involved in helping to make the world a better place, even if they had to be dragged kicking and screaming into doing so.

This isn't going to change the world overnight, but it will at least get people thinking about what the problem is, and how they can fix it. The most tangible thing that perhaps could come of this is that people stop to consider that if pro sports are stopping to tell you something that their main source of information isn't, there is a problem with were they are getting their information.

At the very last we all should make better efforts to educate ourselves.

Just to keep up with the Coyotes news, they were docked a first and second round pick for working out players ahead of the draft. This seems extremely harsh, and I'd be interested to know if this had anything to do with Chayka leaving the organization.
