Every article, I try to include a poll question for readers to vote on, then review the results from the week’s polls every weekend. Taking a break from the 'Offseason Plan' articles, here are this week’s poll results and my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: Are you surprised that Joel Edmundson won’t be back next season?

(Votes: 330)

No: 78%
Yes: 22%

I think the writing was on the wall that Edmundson wouldn’t be returning when the Hurricanes traded for Brady Skjei. Jake Gardiner hadn’t worked out but once a new left-handed, top-four defenseman came in, there just wasn’t going to be room for Edmundson, especially with Haydn Fleury and prospect Jake Bean looking for ice time next season.

QUESTION: Where do you see Dominik Bokk fitting in the Hurricanes’ lineup long-term?

(Votes: 104)

Middle-six forward: 32%
Doesn’t make/stay in the NHL: 30%
Bottom-six forward: 21%
Top-six forward: 17%

While I’d agree that I don’t necessarily see him in the top-six, I was surprised to see so many readers voting that he won’t be able to cut it in the NHL. He’s still one of Carolina’s top forward prospects and I’d expect him to find a spot in the middle-six in the next few seasons.

QUESTION: Do you think the Hurricanes will make any big offseason additions?

(Votes: 69)

No: 51%
Yes: 49%

Like the poll suggests, I think this one could go either way. I’d really hope they add a starting goalie or a top-six forward, in order to put themselves in a better position to make a run next season.

QUESTION: If the Hurricanes could upgrade one position, which should it be?

(Votes: 191)

Starting goalie: 70%
Top-six winger: 29%
Other: 1%

I’m certainly hopeful for a legitimate starting goalie. Not only is it a larger priority than another winger in my opinion but it would also make for a much easier protection scenario in the expansion draft.
