As hinted at for the last number of months, the Ottawa Senators have officially returned to a version of the '2D' logo they used until 2007-2008:

The Athletic's Hailey Salvian confirmed that the rebrand was on the horizon earlier this year, and @SensTalk_ broke news of the announcement timing late last week. To say that it's been a long time coming is an understatement.

And, that's what's kind of funny about the way everything transpired with respect to the '2D' return. Everyone knew it was coming. There were leaks of the logo concept. There were leaks of jersey concepts. There were even jerseys with the new logo for sale in certain stores. From this outsider's perspective, the Senators really didn't seem to have a handle on how they wanted the release to take place. Even with the release of the logo, fans are left waiting on a new jersey design, which is to be unveiled at the draft.

With that being said, and regardless of how we got here, it is nice to see the Senators return to their roots and move away from the cartoon-y logo they'd been playing with for the last decade-plus. The added symmetry of rebranding the logo/jersey as the team "rebrands" its on-ice product with an infusion of talented youth also makes this the perfect time for such an announcement.

What are your thoughts on the new/old logo? Let me know in the comments section.
