The Habs announced today that Jake Evans has signed a new 2-year deal which will see him earn $700,000 in the first year if he plays in the NHL (and $225,000 if he plays in the AHL) and $800,000 for the second year (NHL one-way).

The 24-year-old was a 7th round pick in the 2014 NHL entry draft by the Habs and he played with the Notre-Dame Fighting Irish in the NCAA where he ended up being named captain before making his way to the AHL. He finished his college career with 138 points in 158 games. So far, in the AHL he has collected 83 points in 118 games while also receiving 52 penalty minutes. Last season, he played 13 games with the Canadiens during which he recorded 3 points (2 goals and an assist) and kept a +1 differential. This postseason, he featured in 6 games and had an assist to show for it.

After Nate Thompson was dealt at the deadline, Evan was tasked with centering the Habs fourth line and has showed himself to be more than up to the task. At the end of his new contract, Evans will be a restricted free agent.

With less than two weeks to go before the draft, we can expect the Habs to announce more signings as Max Domi, Charles Hudon, Victor Mete and Xavier Ouellet are currently RFAs.
